PROBLEM

BIA was in the process of building out its marketing team and needed support to strengthen its visibility and expand its reach within the innovation ecosystem. The primary goal was to better connect with Black organizations, supporters, and corporate partners through more strategic and consistent marketing efforts.

PHASE 1: SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER


When I was hired at BIA, they needed a social media manager. Their social media was unpolished, plain, and inconsistent. I created and scheduled content consistently, responded to comments, and grew their engagement organically.

PHASE 2: MARKETING COORDINATOR

As the organization grew, I was promoted and there was a need to better understand marketing performance. I tracked and reported key metrics. With this data, I was able to show growth and spot areas that needed improvement.

PHASE 3: COMMUNITY MANAGER

The following year BIA launched a social media platform exclusively for their members. However, they had no one to manage it. I managed the platform by providing steady content, monitoring member engagement, and connecting with the members.

PHASE 4: MARKETING MANAGER


With the expansion of BIA’s marketing initiatives, my final promotion was needed so someone could directly support the Chief Marketing Officer. I kept a consistent line of communication, lead campaigns and meetings, and coordinated cross-functional collaborations.

Results

PHASE 1: SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER

  • Improved social media posting consistency by 50% using Asana to help plan, track, and manage content

  • Created a visual identity for social media

  • Improved feed aesthetic and cohesion by using different forms of content (reels, graphics, photos)
